Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged the 29-year-old “Datuk Seri” who allegedly assaulted three Rela officers on Friday to surrender to the police.
The police have identified the “Datuk Seri” who allegedly hit three on-duty Rela volunteers on Friday morning, Zahid said today.
“I would like to stress that everyone is accountable before the law, regardless of whether you have a title or not,” The Star reported Zahid as saying.
“Having a Datukship is not a licence to behave in such a way,” he said during a press conference after officiating the home ministry’s Family Day at Kajang Prison today.
The incident occurred on Friday morning near a temple in Ampang. The altercation reportedly began after the Rela officers asked the “Datuk Seri” to move his vehicle, which was obstructing traffic.
The “Datuk Seri” allegedly lost his cool and beat up three Rela members on duty due to a perceived lack of respect shown by them.
The incident recorded on video showed the man beating up the Rela members who did not fight back.
Police are investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
