Umno Youth submitted a memorandum demanding to the United Nations (UN), to put an end to the escalating violence against the Rohingya minority.
The memorandum called on the UN to hold an emergency special session to address the plight of Rohingya Muslims.
It also called for the setting up a peacekeeping mission to restore security in the crisis area, and to facilitate the flow of critical humanitarian aid to the Rohingya.
Umno Youth submitted the memorandum to UN Resident Coordinator in Malaysia Stefan Priesner during a peaceful protest held by at UN’s Malaysia headquarters in Damansara Heights.
Khairul Azwan Harun Umno Youth deputy chief said during his 40-minute meeting with Priesner, they discussed the need for the UN to take swift action to end the violence.
“Maybe, we can help provide humanitarian aid to the Rohingya ,” he said.
The violence in Rakhine increased on Aug 25 after the attack on dozens of police posts by Rohingya insurgents.
