Police will call in former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, assisting in a probe on allegations that he and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had conspired to topple the government.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said both have made reports against each other, hence two investigation papers have been opened.
“We will call everyone who is involved,” he said and assured that the police will carry out a detailed investigation on the matter.
This includes Dr Mahathir, he said “yes”.
Noor Rashid said both investigation papers will be handled under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.
In Jerlun yesterday, Zahid rebuffed accusations on him plotting a move to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak two years ago.
Zahid countered saying to own an audio recording proving the baselessness of the claim; adding that it is illogical for him to initiate such an act, as he had just been appointed deputy prime minister in the July 2015 Cabinet reshuffle.
Dr Mahathir recently claimed that Zahid had met with him soon after he was appointed to the position, seeking his blessings to topple Najib.
