Police are sticking with their decision not to issue a permit for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) anti-kleptocracy Sayangi Malaysia, Hapus Kleptokrasi rally tomorrow at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, although the PJ City Council (MBPJ) has given its greenlight.
IGP Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police had received 27 reports so far objecting to the “Sayangi Malaysia Hapuskan Kleptokrasi” rally scheduled to start at 4pm.
“No doubt the field is under the jurisdiction of MBPJ and we acknowledge the mayor has given his approval for the rally to be held there.
“But our stand remains unchanged. We will not budge because our decision takes into account many factors, including the 27 police reports objecting to it,” he told reporters at the Police Training Centre here.
He said the police also took into consideration the traffic congestion that might occur in the surrounding areas of the rally.
“We have suggested an alternative site which is better, more spacious and easier to control, that is the Kelana Jaya Stadium.
“So, I leave it to the organisers. We are firm on our decision and we have already made it known widely.”
Yesterday, Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the city council, as the owner of the land, gave its permission to have the rally at Padang Timur.
“As well, if the programme includes opening stalls and other businesses…we will allow. We will give permits,” he said.-FMT
