Sea Games Federation (SEAGF) honorary life president, Jose Conjuango Jr confirmed that the Philippines will host the 2019 Sea Games following a council meeting at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, just moments ago.
“A few days before departing for Kuala Lumpur, we had an occasion to meet with some of the officials of the Philippines and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (Alan Peter Cayetano).”
“In the meeting, we came to the agreement that we will host the Sea Games 2019.”
Despite today’s announcement, a member of the Philippines Olympic Committee (POC) had confirmed the matter yesterday after securing backing from President Rodrigo Duterte.
Last month, Manila announced its intention of not hosting the biennial event as all finances allocated for the 2019 Sea Games are being rechannelled towards the rebuilding of Marawi, the southern city ravaged by war with militants.
