PKR today took a swipe at Pas, saying that it was the Islamic party that refused to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan and not the other way around, say Wan Azizah.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said PKR, DAP, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) were always open to talks of cooperation, aimed at taking over Putrajaya from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).
She said this in response to Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s comment yesterday that PH was to be blamed for non-cooperation between both parties.
“I recall that it was Pas that wanted to go on its own for the 14th General Election as it does not want to hold on to the collective objective of dethroning BN.
“It is Pas which has said that it does not want to cooperate with us.
“As such, Pakatan Harapan has decided to move on with its political objectives,” said Azizah.
Azizah, who is Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament and Kajang state assemblywoman, said this after officiating PKR Terengganu’s GE14 main operation centre in Cabang Tiga.
Hadi, who is Marang Member of Parliament and Rhu Rendang state assemblyman, had said that his party was willing to work with any organisation as long as they respected the Islamic party’s views.
He said this during a dialogue session with non-governmental organisations in conjunction with its ‘Fastaqim 2.0’ political rally at Pantai Tok Jembal, which reportedly gathered over 200,000 people.
Hadi had claimed it was PH that would end up as the big loser in the next polls wheras Pas has strong grassroots support from its 7,000 branches at 195 areas nationwide.
Asked on this matter, Azizah said Pas should be reminded that the party managed to make inroads during the last elections due to the political cooperation with other opposition parties in Pakatan Rakyat (now known as Pakatan Harapan).
“Pas won many parliamentary and state seats, especially in Chinese majority areas, because of their cooperation with us.
“I am not sure if Hadi is aware of this, as they had lost in many of the same seats they had previously contested,” said Azizah, adding that PH was ready for GE14 and would leave it to the people to decide the rightful party or coalition to rule the country.-NST
