Pakatan Harapan Selangor will hold a special meeting today to discuss issues surrounding the distribution of seats for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).
Its state chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the meeting will convene as adviced by Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said the meeting would take place somewhere in Selangor but declined to reveal further details.
“All parties have been asked to send their representatives to continue the negotiations. They will each have the right to air their views and arguments for further discussion.
“All discussions and negotiations must take place behind closed doors until a decision has been reached by consensus.
“I see this as a positive development where we will continue the negotiations and try to come to an agreement that can ensure our victory in the next general election,” said Azmin.
Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said this after attending the Former Security Personnel Convention (Pahlawan) held at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Section 7.
Azmin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, also dismissed a statement made by PKR Wanita chief Haniza Mohamed Talha who had reportedly said the party was ready to reduce its seats to make way for DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
To this, Azmin said PKR has not taken such a stance because the seat negotiation process was still on-going.
Asked on when Selangor’s Pakatan would conclude the seat negotiation, Azmin said the pact hoped to do so before nomination day but preferred it to be reached the soonest possible.
“If there are a few seats that needed to be further discussed, it is better to make space for it. Sometimes, it involves the swapping of seats within a state and between other states.
“I hope and believe the leadership of Pakatan today will be able to reach a consensus soon so that we can focus on general election preparations at the constituencies.” said Azmin.-NST
