Pakatan Harapan still cannot agree on who will become prime minister if they win the next 14th general elections. Obviously this is bad for the country and the rakyat.
How will this impact the rakyat?
Let us take a look.
Who are the candidates?
There are now several candidates for the post of prime minister if Pakatan Harapan wins the next 14th general elections. They are Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Lim Kit Siang or even Lim Guan Eng.
What are their problems?
Apparently at the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council meeting held last Thursday, all party members namely DAP, Parti Amanah Negara and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia all agreed for Tun Mahathir to be the next prime minister. However, Parti Keadilan Rakyat does not agree due to several reasons.
PKR wants Anwar to be their PM
It is clear that PKR does not want Tun Mahathir to be the next prime minister. This is because they want their de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be prime minister. Political analyst associate professor Dr Jeniri Amir said there are factions in the PKR who cannot forget Tun Mahathir throwing Anwar in jail. It is hard for Pakatan Harapan to lead the country if such bad blood still exists.
Some in the opposition don’t like Tun Mahathir
There are those in the opposition who still cannot forget the past. They are still incensed with what Tun Mahathir did to them before. Associate Professor Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi told New Straits Times on January 5 that some members of the opposition loathe Tun Mahathir for his iron fisted administration. So it seems that the feud runs high until this very day. It will be hard for Pakatan Harapan to elect their prime minister.
Tun Mahathir is a recycled leader
The reason why Pakatan Harapan cannot decide on who will become their next prime minister is because they see Tun Mahathir as a recycled leader. Pas Youth vice chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said Tun Mahahtir has nothing new to offer for the country. It also shows that Pakatan Harapan has no one other suitable or younger candidates to become their next prime minister of choice.
Some members of the Pakatan Harapan also don’t trust DAP
Some members of the opposition especially the Malays and the Muslims also do not trust DAP. DAP is known for its anti Malay and anti Islam stance. So it will be difficult for Pakatan Harapan to nominate Lim Kit Siang or Lim Guan Eng to be the next prime minister.
Pakatan Harapan should focus on reforming the country
Pakatan Harapan should focus on reforming the country than bicker on who will become the next prime minister. Former PKR vice president Dr Syed Husin Ali said Pakatan Harapan should not focus on who will become the next prime minister but focus on the rakyat. In a statement, Dr Syed Husin said this has already set a bad example to the rakyat.
Indecisiveness shows Pakatan Harapan’s lack of confidence
All this indecisiveness to nominate their next prime minister shows that Pakatan Harapan leaders lack confidence. They lack confidence in Tun Mahathir as well as each other. If they lack confidence, how can they rule the country in the future? How can Pakatan Harapan be champions of the rakyat when they do not have the confidence? This will be a dangerous precedent for the country and the rakyat.
Pakatan Harapan is made up of disgruntled leaders
The fact that the opposition leaders can’t decide on who will be their next leader shows that they are sellfish and do not care for the rakyat. Sarawak deputy chief minister Tan Sri James Masing said the Pakatan Harapan leaders are a group of disgruntled leaders each with their own self vested interests with their own selfish agenda. Thus a consensus on who will become the next leader can never be achieved.
How will all this affect the rakyat?
What all this means is that Pakatan Harapan is all messed up and all over the place.
The opposition can’t even get their own house in order. How can Pakatan Harapan rule the country when it is so disorganised. So it will be risky for the rakyat to vote for Pakatan Harapan. The rakyat must think of their families and their children. Do not gamble the future by voting for Pakatan Harapan.
