The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has warned fishermen in Sabah and Sarawak not to go out to sea until the weather becomes calm to avoid undesirable incidents.

Commander of East Armada, Admiral Syed Zahiruddin Putra Syed Osman said those in the sea should take appropriate security measures.

“This follows warning of strong winds and turbulent seas in waters of Condore, North Reef, Labuan and Pulau Layang-Layang.

“These are expected to continue until Wednesday (Dec 27).”

The Meteorological Department said the Tembin tropical storm is expected to move from south Philippines to west of the South China Sea with winds reaching 125kph and waves of 4.5 metres.

These conditions are dangerous for shipping, fishing, ferry services, small boats and sea recreation.

Fishermen were urged to follow weather forecasts and alerts issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the advice of security agencies.

In case of emergency, contact East Armada Operations Centre (088-473606), Maritime Region 2 Operation Centre (089-219709), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Sabah (088 -270165) and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Sarawak (082-432544).-BERNAMA
