Individuals who issue statements or whose actions humiliate and slander Islam are not only prosecuted in court.
They also face action by Islamic religious institutions, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom.
He cited the case involving “Raja Bomoh” Ibrahim Mat Zin, whose eccentric antics using coconuts and bamboo binoculars attracted widespread media attention.
He was required by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council to attend religious classes, Jamil said.
“In the case of (lawyer) Siti Kassim, action has been taken by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department.
“An investigation paper has been opened and the person concerned has been summoned.”
He said this in response to a question raised by a participant at a convention on Empowering the Ummah Agenda 3.0 here last night.
Jamil Khir was a member of the panel for the religious cluster at the convention.
The participant wanted to know whether action had been taken by the government against Siti Kassim, whose real name is Siti Zabedah Kasim, who was often reported making statements which some quarters had claimed insulted Islam.
