Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy has blamed MIC for the plight of downtrodden Indians in the country, and wants the Barisan Nasional (BN) party “to be taught a lesson”.
He said Hindraf would ask Pakatan Harapan to allow it to contest in the seats its components had lost to MIC in the last general election.
He said MIC would then be “wiped out” from the political scene.
“While we are campaigning to get rid of Barisan Nasional from Putrajaya, Hindraf will ensure that MIC is completely wiped out as the representatives of the Indian community,” he said.
“In the 50 years of BN rule, MIC has completely failed the Indian community,” he said at the launch of Hindraf’s “Zero Vote for BN” campaign during the 10th anniversary of its rally here last night.
Also present were Pakatan Harapan leaders such as DAP’s P Ramasamy, Anthony Loke and Zaid Ibrahim, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
Waytha alleged that funds meant for Indians never reached the community because MIC had formed their own NGOs and allocated the money among themselves.
“They talk about the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB) and that they are given a RM150 million budget, which are all lies,” he said.
“Firstly RM150 million is just peanuts for the downtrodden Indians, and even so, that money would not reach them,” he claimed.
“There is another allocation under the New Economic Model (NEM) and even that does not reach the people because MIC forms their own NGOs and they give it out among themselves,” he alleged.
Waytha however acknowledged that the sentiments of rural Indians were currently still with MIC.
He said there were not enough people from the opposition to go to rural areas in Kedah, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Perak to convince the voters there.
He said PH was now contented with the support it got in urban areas.
“The urban Indians, who make up the upper class and working class Indians, are definitely with PH,” he said.
He said rural and semi-rural Indians needed a figure to assure them their plight would be taken care of if PH wins Putrajaya in GE14.-FMT
