Allegations of police interrogating and harassing Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali was refuted and false as the situation was taken advantage to increase political tension. Instead, the process was carried out with due respect shown to the national figure.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was given respectful treatment during her explanation regarding the gathering. She even made a public statement that she had not faced any form of intimidation throughout the time her statement was recorded.
Federal police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd stressed that the statement-taking process was carried out with respect to the national figure.
“We carried out the (questioning) process professionally and respectfully with (Dr Siti Hasmah, bearing in mind her) position and status in the country.
“(In fact, Dr Siti Hasmah) said that she did not feel intimidated during the interrogation process,” he said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Najmuddin said that the 91-year-old wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was cooperative and keen to help police in completing their investigation. However, it is no surprise when the situation was taken advantage off, portraying police brutality and purposefully increasing the political tension to their advantage.
