Chairman of BERSATU, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad stressed that the party could not allow their logo to be used by DAP so that BERSATU would remain a Malay party.
Commenting on the possibility of DAP party registration being canceled, the former prime minister said there were still two other parties in HARAPAN to give DAP a place.
“There are two other parties (in HARAPAN), which are multiracial. They (DAP) can compete under both parties.
“I’m convinced that the PKR and AMANAH will give them a place, but we cannot, because we are a Malay party,” he said as reported by Free Malaysia Today today.
Dr Mahathir explained that his party should remain a Malay party to win the support of Malay voters and HARAPAN would be limping in the coming general election without the support of Malay voters.
According to him, the situation has also caused Pakatan Rakyat to fail to win the 2013 general election.
“Like it or not, the Malays are still very communal, so they support Umno.”
“They will not support a multi-racial party, they (Pakatan Rakyat) get a lot of Chinese support, but not much support from the Malays and without them you can not win,” he was quoted as saying.
