The Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) is confident to be the main contributor for Malaysia in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games 2017.

Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim ASUM president said the union has a target of four gold medals to bring home, however is confident that the number will be more.

Malaysia would participate in 13 aquatic events at the games from Aug 15 to 30.

“I am not putting any pressure on our athletes but I believe that we could produce more medals and help the country to achieve it target of 111 medals.

“We also have athletes in open water swimming, water polo and also synchronised events. Besides diving and swimming ,” he said after opening the Jerai Umno division meeting here today.

Shahidan expressed his confidence that Malaysian aquatic athletes would shine in this 29th edition of the Games, which will see a total of 93 aquatic athletes from 11 regional nations taking part in the games.

Three years ago, in the 2015 Singapore Sea Games, Malaysia garnered eight gold medals.
