Police have detained another man yesterday evening to assist investigations in the murder case at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi here last Sunday.
Bukit Aman CID director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said with the latest arrest of a 22-year-old man, a total of 14 individuals, involving four women and 10 men, aged between 16 and 26, had been picked up over the case.
“We believe with the capture of the 14 individuals, we could solve the case. We are still looking for the remaining members whom we have identified,” he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters today.
Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said so far, police had recorded the statements of eight individuals to facilitate investigations, including a witness at the petrol station.
He said police were still checking the background of the victim, but initial investigations found the incident was over a feud of the victim’s debt linked to drug trafficking and the victim was also a member of the secret society.
He said three teams from Bukit Aman had been sent to the state to question the suspects and witnesses.
Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said police were grateful to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for assisting in the arrest of seven individuals in the republic.
On the BMW car used in the murder, he said police had yet to recover the vehicle as inspection found the car was carrying a false number plate and the vehicle owner of the original registration number had lodged a police report.
He also confirmed the incident at the petrol station had attracted the attention of the public after the video went viral on social sites, but assured that security in the state was under control.
In the 7.30am incident last Sunday, the victim, in his 40’s, died at the scene after being stabbed, knocked down and run over by a car carrying four men.
The murder took place when the man, who was with his wife, was inflating the tyres of his car.-BERNAMA
