LANGKAWI: Six units of shophouses were burnt down in a fire incident in Padang Matsirat, Langkawi onSunday.

The charred premises include two motorcycle shops, two outlets selling clothings, an herbal store and an ice manufacturing premises.

Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander Yaacob Hassan said they received a call on the incident at about 10.34am and three fire engines with two supporting vehicles were deployed to contain the situation.

Speaking to reporters, he said that by 11.16am their operation managed to stop the fire from spreading to seven other shoplots which were in the same row.

He said after the fire was doused off, the department’s forensic unit had taken over to carry out investigation to ascertain the cause and losses in the incident.
